Foraging in the White Mountains for Food & Medicine
Join Sonoran Herbalist John Slattery on a Summer Harvesting adventure along the Mogollon Rim in the White Mountains of Arizona. This exciting, hands-on workshop introduces the student to the enchanted world of foraging for your own food and medicine! John will share with you from his experiences of over a decade of working with these plants. A rich web of folk history, clinical experience, personal insights, and recent scientific discovery sculpt the content of the workshop.
You’ll learn how to properly identify plants used for food and medicine, and implement them in your life while developing a sense of ethical stewardship of the land as wildharvester. Each participant will harvest their own plant material and create a medicinal preparation using alcohol known as a tincture. In addition, several types of medicinal preparations will be covered orally. We will be tasting out of hand a variety of wild plant foods while discussing some of the intricacies of harvest, processing, and preparation in the kitchen. This class is entirely in the field so if you’re searching for a unique getaway with an experienced guide this is your chance.
